Cairo International Film Festival in its 36th edition had been inaugurated on the 9th of November 2014. The opening ceremony of the festival took place at the Cairo Citadel with the German-Turkish filmmaker Fatih Akin’s drama “The Cut,” about the Armenian genocide.
The closing ceremony will take place on the 18th of November at the Giza Sound and Light theatre and will be attended by an estimated number of 2000 people.
The prestigious fest was cancelled in 2011 and also in 2013 after a rocky 2012 edition. No doubt that this 36th version reflects the fact that Egypt is back.
The announcements of the Cairo International Film Festival included the creation of a new award “Naguib Mahfouz Award” which actress Nadia Lutfi will receive as an award of honor to her unique talent and exceptional performance as well as Moroccan film critic Noureddine Sail, topper of Morocco’s Center Cinematographique Marocain.

The festival main poster is crowned with Nadia Lutfi photo. She is one of the most popular actresses of the Golden age of Egyptian Cinema. She was born in 1938 of an Egyptian father and a Polish mother. Her real name is Paula. Nadia Lutfi acted in over 50 films of witch Al-mummia (The Night of Counting the Years) directed by Shadi Abdel Salam.
Nadia’s true stardom blasted off after presenting her most iconic role as a psychologically troubled blonde girl in Al Nadara Al Sawdaa (The Black Sunglasses) in 1963. Lutfi’s roles varied between portraying the romantic blue-blooded girl in Al Khattaya (The Sins), to finally master much abyssal roles as an Egyptian low-class marginalized woman in Qa’a Al Madina (The Bottom of the City) and Al Siman Wal Kharif (Autumn’s Quail, becoming the only actress to compete against the enthralling actress So’ad Hosni at that time.
Nadia communicated with the festival by sending a video in which she talked about an Egypt we know very well and dedicated the festival to those who died among the Egyptians.

Il poster del festival principale è coronato da foto di Nadia Lutfi. Lei è una delle attrici più popolari del periodo d’oro del cinema egiziano. Lei è nata nel 1938 da padre egiziano e madre polacca. Il suo vero nome è Paula. Nadia Lufti ha recitato in oltre 50 film, tra cui Al-mummia ( The Night of Counting the Years) regia di Shadi Abdel Salam e Bab El- Hadid diretto da Youssef Chahine . La vera popolarità di Nadia è decollata dopo aver presentato il suo ruolo più iconico come una ragazza bionda psicologicamente turbata in Al Nadara Al Sawdaa ( gli occhiali da sole neri) nel 1963. I ruoli di Lutfi variavano tra raffigurare la romantica ragazza di sangue blu in Al Khattaya ( The Sins ), a padroneggiare finalmente ruoli molto abissali come una donna emarginata egiziana di bassa classe in Qa’a Al Madina ( The Bottom on the City ) e Al Siman Wal Kharif (Autumn’s Quail), diventando l’unica attrice a competere con l’attrice affascinante So’ad Hosni in quel momento.
