Sharm el Sheikh: the miracle

0

sharm el sheikhNo doubt that Sharm el-Sheikh is a clear proof of how it is possible to change the desert to paradise.  This miracle is a prophecy concerning the entire Egypt: all this desert will become one day a prosper land. Sharm el-Sheikh, “the city of peace,” is one of the most beautiful four cities in the world according to the classification of the BBC in 2005 and won the award by Unesco for being selected among the top five cities of peace in the world among 400 cities worldwide. Before 1967, Sharm el-Sheikh was little more than an occasional base of operations for local fishermen. Commercial development of the area began during the Israeli presence in the area. The Israelis built the town of Ofira, overlooking Sharm el-Maya Bay and opened the first tourist-oriented establishments in the area 6 km north at Naama Bay. These included a marina hotel on the southern side of the bay, a nature field school on the northern side, diving clubs, a now well-known promenade, and the Naama Bay Hotel. After Sinai was restored to Egypt in 1982, the Egyptian government embarked on an initiative to encourage continued development of the city. Today more than 200 hotels and resorts are spread around the city visited last year by around 3.5 million tourists (2.5 million in 2013 and 4 million in 2010). In general, 41% among the tourists like to go to the Red Sea (Hurghada, Marsa Alam, etc.), 34% to South Sinai (Sharm, Nuweiba, etc.) and 21% to Cairo.

The terrorism

In the same year 2005 Sharm el-Sheikh had been classified as one of the most beautiful four cities in the world, a series of terrorist attacks perpetrated by an Islamist organization on 23 July 2005 killed eighty-eight people and over 200 were injured, making the attack the deadliest terrorist action in Egypt’s history. In fact, there is an antagonism between tourism and terrorists (extremists, fundamentalists, etc.). Tourism is enforcing the State that must be destroyed; Tourism imports values which are against the “niqab” value; Tourism creates channels with the West that must be shut down. During the Muslim Brotherhood dark era, they started talking about bringing Iranian tourists and creating resorts according to the Islamic Sharia.

Important sites around Sharm el Sheikh

Ras Muhammad National Park: the park is situated in the tourist region of the Red Sea Riviera, located 12 km from the city of Sharm-el-Sheikh. The park spans an area of 480 km², including 135 3470314-_Beautiful_Turquoise_waters_Sharm_El_Sheikhkm² of surface land area and 345 km² area over water. Ras Mohammad encompasses two islands, Tiran and Sanafir. TiranIsland is located approximately 6 km offshore from the Sinai Peninsula. Underwater caves formed as the result of earthquakes. About 0.9 hectare of mangrove forest cover a 1.15 km shallow channel at the southernmost end of Ras Mohammad peninsula. Near the mangrove and approximately 150 m inland, there are open cracks in the land, caused by earthquakes. One of the cracks is approximately 40 m length and 0.20−1.5 m in width. Within the cracks, there are pools of water, some with a depth of over 14 m.

Saint Catherine’s Monastery: 210 km North to Sharm, you will find St Catherine Monastery built between 548 and 565, and is one of the oldest working Christian monasteries in the world. The site contains the world’s oldest continually operating library, possessing many unique books including the Syriac Sinaiticus and, until 1859, the Codex Sinaiticus. A small town with hotels and swimming pools, called Saint Katherine City, has grown around the monastery.

Nabq Protected Area: Nabq is characterized by a great diversity of habitats and ecosystems in a uniquely compact setting, representing a complete terrestrial/marine ecosystem which characterizes the Gulf of Aqaba coast. The region has a fascinating natural beauty and outstanding biological diversity. The coral reefs are among the best and most diverse in the Egyptian Red Sea (208 species of hard coral), and are the home for a great number of fish (438 species) and marine invertebrates. They have enormous economic value, providing the basis for international tourism activities and sustain local Bedouin fisheries.

Eventi importanti a Sharm
